Forest fires, again

short-lived flowers
starving birds and withered fruit
empty spiderwebs

forests burned down to their roots
no bringing them back again

Year upon year, the forest-fire smoke comes from the west, angled north or south. Naught to do but watch the air quality numbers and sneak out in the lulls. Until the winds die down . . . or the trees are finally gone. The prairie fires go on.

“Squirrels at Play”, Lizl Bennefeld, Photographer.
time to party, time to play,
time to turn and walk away
stillness in the early spring,
squirrels run on the wires above
robins flit from fence to branches—
in these moments, dreams are born

closer, greening meadows are waking from their dreamless sleep

dewdrops cling to flower buds, stems, and promises of bees

Good news arrives too late, while
bad news leaves no time to react.
Hearsay carries heavy loads—
   promises are sterling silver.
True and false are points of view.
I am me, and you are you.

Getaway | Ronovan Writes Sijo Wednesday Poetry Challenge #47

Tucked away in a stone cabin, leased from spring to winter's end,

I eat what I can find, as I've tired of the store-bought stuff.

I've an option to buy this land. I think I've found my final home.

life is filled with happenstance (sometimes

I hope for a great ending and a comprehensive review.

Only the present moment contains life.

in the midst of outer chaos, quiet passion abides
its pebbled path leads on to the shore's ruffled waves
I arrive to each moment ... I am home in the now
