“Hunters Moon,”
by Liz Bennefeld
Clouds across the moon’s face
cast shadows on the path ahead
where sharp winds set leaves free
from their icy cover
to flee in upward spirals
over dead ground.
The click of footsteps
ever nearer
on the road behind me
chips
at the silence.
