time's swift flight
out of reach--immutable
don't look back

among the stars above
and the humble mourning dove
Earth or heaven couldn't hide you

No Endings | Ronovan Writes SIJO Wednesday Poetry Challenge #64.

There is completion in this time and space, but they and we will move on.

We will always look for beginnings of forever, search for surely hidden paths.

And at the end, may we find new beginnings with long-forgotten friends.

short-lived flowers
starving birds and withered fruit
empty spiderwebs

forests burned down to their roots
no bringing them back again

Year upon year, the forest-fire smoke comes from the west, angled north or south. Naught to do but watch the air quality numbers and sneak out in the lulls. Until the winds die down . . . or the trees are finally gone. The prairie fires go on.

“Squirrels at Play”, Lizl Bennefeld, Photographer.
time to party, time to play,
time to turn and walk away
stillness in the early spring,
squirrels run on the wires above
robins flit from fence to branches—
in these moments, dreams are born

the first rays of sunlight decorate the distant mountains

closer, greening meadows are waking from their dreamless sleep

dewdrops cling to flower buds, stems, and promises of bees

the stillness of the pond at midday
        small clouds float above

sunbeams play at hide-and-seek
with fish among the lily pads

calm waters and gentle winds—
hopeful thoughts and dreams of peace
